I do daycare and had a whole calendar full of free things to do last summer. Des Moines has several wading pools that are free. We really like Ashby park. Also-Nova Cinemas has a free summer movie series. I found that I prefered to go to the movies for $1 because you can reserve a spot-the free movies fill up really fast. If your kids like animals the shelters are usually open for kids to come and play with the animals so they are socialized for adoption. Good luck and have a fun summer.
The historical building use to be free. I think it still is. That's a fun place to go for the day. Lake Aquabi to the beach. Grey's lake, Raccon River beach/park, The wading pool is fun, the one up by the Heritage Carousel is nice and on certain days the carousel has buy one ride get one free plus they have the big rocket slide.
There are all kinds of free or low cost fun activities for families in the Des Moines metro area! You didn't mention where you live, so I've selected a few from all over the area. You can find more information and links to these activities on www.kidz-activitiez.com. Have fun!
