Des Moines Families

The 411 on 515.

The Art Store doesn't have anything for kids this young, and the Art Center is, erm, expensive.

We went to the Children's Museum in Salt Lake City while there and they have free (with admission to the museum, which was free with our Science Center membership) classes, about 8 per day, every day of the week. DS took one on pottery, he made a clay pot. Loved it. Wants to do more. Craft time at the library isn't quite the same for him.

I work at the Art Center in the Studio Programs. We do have some partial and full scholarships available. Ceramics classes start at age 6. Our prices are comparable other classes around town, and all supplies are provided with the cost of tuition. Admission to the Art Center is free everyday- member or not. We do have a family classes on the second Saturday and second Sunday of each month. Let me know if you have any other questions!

You can find art classes and all kinds of other classes, teams, camps, and events for children, ages newborn to 18 years, at Kidz-Activitiez.com! And like Nicole mentioned previously, many instructors and organizations do offer scholarships, so even if it is not publicized, it never hurts to ask!

You didn't mention where you live so I've pulled just a few art class providers for you:

Studio Virtu (preK - adults)
YMCA's
WDM Continuing Education has an upcoming Holiday Pottery Painting class (K - 6th grade)
Ankeny Parks & Recreation has Little Rembrandts (ages 4 yrs - 1st grade)

My son loves to work with clay, as well! Hope your little guy has fun with whatever class you choose! Please visit http://www.kidz-activitiez.com and check out all of the other fun classes and activities that our kids have available to them in the Des Moines metro area!
